COOP GIVEAWAY and The Great Holiday Coop Decor Extravaganza! November 25, 2014

The lights are shining, and the garland is being hung. At My Pet Chicken, we’re all definitely getting into the holiday spirit, whatever holiday you celebrate with your loved ones. I’m MPC’s Shannon. At our place, we always get the house all done up and shiny for all to see, but this year, our chickens get to join in the fun. We’re going to share some of our families’ coop decor with you and get you in the swing of things, or maybe inspire you to take your coop decor to the next level. Afterward, we’ll let you know what surprises we have in store for you, from us—including a big coop giveaway to get YOU into the holiday spirit.

Bring out the lights, set them to twinkle, add a wreath or two; just bring on the spirit of the season. My Pet Chicken would like to show you how the mood has hit us here by first sharing some photos of our employees’ coops, decorated for the season.

How inspiring are these coops?! Hopefully you’re ready to run out and start trimming your own coop, or decking your runs with boughs of, um, suet. (Holly would be bad for chickens, so as you decorate, keep in mind chickens can eat small things that can lodge in their crops, so don’t place decorations where your chickens can get to it easily, and keep your decorations safely out of reach of curious beaks!)

Now for the best part, the COOP GIVEAWAY! To win the coop, you must live in the 48 states, and enter on Rafflecopter. Here’s what you’ll have to do: Sign up to follow the My Pet Chicken blog and the Fresh Eggs Daily blog. Also leave a comment on this blog post telling us why you want to win a coop (also, be sure to choose your favorite employee coop!)–and a comment on Fresh Eggs Daily’s post, where you can share a photo of your own decorated coop if you have one.

To enter the Coop Giveaway, just follow the instructions on Rafflecopter.

One grand prize Coop Giveaway winner will win

1. My Pet Chicken’s Clubhouse Coop with one run!

I like April’s chicken coop the best! I want to win this contest because we are new to this wonderful life of owning chickens. I have 3 boys, 2 of them have special needs. I wanted them to have some purpose and to learn responsibility. We live in suburbia in cookie cutter houses so I wanted to give them a taste of country. They love checking for eggs when they get home from school and have become quite attached to Tina, Goldie and Daisy.

I love the pics I always see on the “My Eggs Daily” site on Facebook and look forward to seeing more pics, etc. on your site, “My Pet Chicken!” I don’t have a chicken coop, but think I would LOVE to win this one … it’s not too small, not too big, it’s just right (like the Three Bears)! I’ve asked my husband about getting one, but he doesn’t seem interested, but I AM!

As far as the chicken coops shown above,I like Lauren’s! Not too much … cute!

Joan Biddison November 25th, 2014

Laurens is my favorite.I would love to win books and coop!

Kiersten November 25th, 2014

I love Lauren’s! That’s our goal!

Sue Meserve November 25th, 2014

I love the elegant simplicity of #4. I’m so wishing we had a pretty coop. We had to move our hens to a new coop fairly quickly . They hated the tiny one we bought from a private person making coops. I feel it was way too small, they decided not to roost inside, it’s getting cold here in Maine. We threw together a rough, I mean very rough coop out of an old ice shack. They are happier but I would just love the one you are giving away!

Sara November 25th, 2014

Ps. I want to win the coop beacuse I’m moving and this would be a great way for me to move my birds with me! My current coop is a permenant shed and not mobile 🙁

Cindy Darden November 25th, 2014

I would be so happy with any of these great prizes but I so need that pretty coop!

Nancy Couden November 25th, 2014

Jenn R November 25th, 2014

I like Aprils and my kids could use another coop to fill since I filled mine myself.

Linda Reed November 25th, 2014

I’d have to say Lauren’s is my favorite. I hadn’t even thought of decorating my coop, but now I just have to. Don’t get me wrong but for some reason the ugly Christmas sweater contests came to mind while looking at the entries. None of the entries are ugly, they are fun to see.

Diana Denman November 25th, 2014

I have a sweet little flock of 4 that would benefit greatly from such a lovely new home. Best Wishes to all!

Rachel T November 25th, 2014

Alison Miller November 25th, 2014

It is a toss up between Lauren’s and Deb’s coops. What a great job everyone did! I can tell how much you all love your chickens and want to make the season festive for them, as much as for their human family! Love it!

Susana November 25th, 2014

The coop giveaway is a great home for my chicks!

Susanne November 25th, 2014

I love Lauren’s with the pig out front. It feels very homey. It would be great to have a second coop. I have a lone chicken that can’t live with her sisters any longer. It would be nice for her to have her own place.

I like them all. .. but Laurens best. . The critters are toooo cute!

Kat November 25th, 2014

I have to choose Lauren’s in honor of our pig, Muzzleloader. Deb did a fine job of re-purposing by using the gazebo, Shannon’s is more like mine would look like if I decorated – something simple, and April’s has just the right amount of do dads and froo froos to inspire awe in those who enjoy a little gaudiness (in a good way). I’m sure the resident poultry in each is clucking their own versions of Christmas carols, inspired by the lovely decorations!

CHERYL November 25th, 2014

Love the coop! I don’t have one yet but just love following and seeing everyones pics!

denise paul November 25th, 2014

love the coop really need one for my 6 girls!!

Jennifer November 25th, 2014

I would be so thankful and blessed to WIN a coop! We’ve been trying to get chickens for 2 years but it seems like there is always some financial reason why we have to put it off – the coop being the most expensive part of it all. We live in an area with lots of birds of prey so a good coop is a must! My kiddos are as anxious as I am to get chickens because I’m allergic to both dogs and cats so we don’t have any pets. We all think chickens will make excellent little friends and I’m excited for fresh eggs too! Finally, my vote goes to April for the coop decorating contest! Blessings!

Robin W November 25th, 2014

I love number 3, Lauren’s. But what fun! I definitely have some fresh ideas now.

Awful hard to pick a fav from these. They’re all sweet coops ! If I had to pick i’d say I would like to have a nice roomy coop just like Lauren’s ;).. I have 6 girls in a lil 5 chicken coop and they are pretty cramped. They have a nice big covered run that protects them from all angles from predators and nasty weather but it would be so nice to have a brand new second coop for… a few more girls !

Alicia November 25th, 2014

Lauren’s coop is my favorite. So cute! I’ve been reading about keeping chickens and lusting for chickens for two years now. I have my husband on board, but winning a coop would totally seal the deal if he didn’t have to build one. 🙂 Great prize!!!

Favorite Coop: Lauren’s Lovely Pig and Coop

Why I would like to win:
Unfortunately mine is a sad one! We’ve lost a good number of our favorite little babies over this last year to the ridiculous number of coons in ruralland IL. It would definitely help us out to have another coop to be able to protect the chickies a little better.

We’ve just spent a little money on a security system to actually watch the coop/run at night and see how they’ve been getting in—hopefully that will help some but we would really appreciate winning! 🙂 Thanks!

Lex Hetrick November 25th, 2014

I love Lauren’s coop! The simple decorations just work so well with the red coop. I can’t wait to have a coop of my own – after so much research and yearning, I’m ready for the girls!

Kevin Ryan November 25th, 2014

The nicest decorated and sweetly festive decorations is April’s Candy Cane & Bows Coop. The lights are a cheery accent to the bows & candy canes. They have such a subte presence that doesn’t overwhelm the senses as some over-the-too, gaudy displays can. (think Clark Griswold’s meter spinning set-up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

April’s decorations give me a feeling of quaint Country Chicken Christmas Cheer. Having a brightened spirit creates a countenance …a holiday wamth that the ladies can sense. She’s created a simple setup that glows. I just love these rural ways.

To win the coop would help me create a corner of country life that’d be a wonderful, healthy activity for me. I have Multiple Sclerosis and having a small flock to care would be therapeutic. This coop & run would fit right in out my back door. Having regular daily tasks to maintain the health of the chickens will keep my body active and help me stay heathy. The purposeful activities are form the light daily exercise and the chickens care is just enough motivation to keep me moving.

Jane Fredberg November 25th, 2014

I like Lauren’s coop the best. It has a traditional comforting feel.

Sharon November 25th, 2014

I’m partial to Deb’s at night! 🙂

Tracy November 25th, 2014

Lauren’s mostly because of the pig.

Joanne Hall November 25th, 2014

I like April’s coop #3. I would love to have this coop for my 2 girl since I live in a flood are and currently they are using my horses run in shed which is so inappropriate for them.

Kristie Fontaine November 26th, 2014

I like the manger coop the best!

Racheal sedmack November 26th, 2014

You guys are the best!!! I have learned so much about chickens and I am very grateful for all the knowledge you share!! I will always follow you and I greatly appreciate all the advice!!

Marcia November 26th, 2014

If I had to pick one I would say #2 😀

Joan H November 26th, 2014

I vote for April’s coop! Thanks!

Jessica Patterson November 26th, 2014

I like April’s decorated coop the best! Lots of holiday spirit! Would love to add a second coop as we plan to add more chickens in the spring to our current flock of 5.

Meeg Valdez November 26th, 2014

#3 love the peppermint house with night lights

Peggy Denton November 26th, 2014

I would love to have one of those!

Beverly Wittmer November 26th, 2014

I really could use a good coop. I cant get mine raccoon proof. I started with 8 and have 2 left. I plan on trying again in the spring, getting more chicks. I’ve learned a lot this year. They have been lots of fun.

Beverly Wittmer November 26th, 2014

I would pick Aprils coop. Small, good starter coop

Deborah Rosen November 26th, 2014

All the coops look great, but I like #2 best – it seems to celebrate the season in the most natural way.

Sue November 26th, 2014

Severe storms have destroyed my pens, and I desperately need something sturdier than my temporary tarps and pvc pipe housing. Have standard breeds, roosters, and silkies. I am worried about my silkies and this coop would be so beneficial to them, especially at this time.

laurie November 26th, 2014

I like coop 2…

laurie November 26th, 2014

Coop 2 looks good…

Dee November 26th, 2014

Would love to win the coop for my girls, thank you for the opportunity…

Brian November 26th, 2014

i love Lauren’s coop!

Christian Guerra November 26th, 2014

I’m going to have to choose number 4. It is just too cute with the signage and the Ameraucana girls running about. Not to mention the cute lil piggie in a Santa hat. Good stuff, good stuff indeed. =) Happy Holidays all.

Audrey November 26th, 2014

All of these coops make me smile! 4 is my absolute favorite coop! Having one will finally give me the “umph” I need to get girls of my own!

Lori November 26th, 2014

i love Lauren’s coop!

Pamela Clare November 26th, 2014

I love #4, Laurens! It’s classic, but the signs just really made me laugh. Chickens Check In, Eggs Check Out. LOL! And that pig, just too homey!

Jessie Schares November 26th, 2014

I think they’re all great, but love the pig in Lauren’s… And my Bantams would love a space of their own away from the big girls 😉

Nikki November 26th, 2014

i like Deb’s coop (the first one). Love the light up reindeer. It would be nice to have a second coop so I could get the polish and fizzle bantams that I’ve been wanting and don’t want to mix with the big hens.

rhonda November 26th, 2014

I love Deb’s coop, especially all lit up! Hope I win, what a blessing that would be!

Melissa Bauer November 26th, 2014

I like Aprils coop the best. I would like to win the new coop because the coop we bought to start or chicken adventure this spring has turned into a nightmare, so we are looking to upgrade.

Karen Wallace November 26th, 2014

My favorite is April’s coop!
I’d love to win a new coop, I could use an isolation area for picked on or under the weather hens/roos. Right now I have to keep my babies inside my bathroom in a dog kennel to separate them when needed!

Claire Jordan November 26th, 2014

I like Laurens coop no.4 🙂

Marie Barabolkin November 26th, 2014

Diane Schneider November 26th, 2014

Love how #1 is decorated for Christmas but #4 is my favorite. Would love to win this coop for my very favorite father-in-law. He hasn’t had chickens for many years and would love to. The little town where he lives only allows up to four chickens so this would work perfectly & now that he is alone it would be a great addition for him.

BeckyW November 26th, 2014

Love this blog & all the coops. Maybe we’ll decorate ours too!

Nanette November 26th, 2014

Kim November 26th, 2014

I like Shelly’s coop. My son and I are placing our chick order for the spring and we do not yet have our coop! We have been wanting to raise chickens for quite a while now and finally bought unrestricted property that will allow us to raise them and we just can’t wait!! I ordered and have read Lisa Steele’s book and I look forward to reading your as well!

Lorraine November 26th, 2014

I love Shelly’s manger coop.

shawn November 26th, 2014

Lauren’s Coop is awesome and cute.

Rhonda Lowry November 26th, 2014

All the coops are cute, but the one that inspired me was Lauren’s as the red barn and yard are similar to the one we had to leave behind. My mother died recently and we are moving to be with my father. My husband promised I could take some of my best hens but am needing a coop. Thanks for the contest and Merry Christmas!

Melissa November 26th, 2014

I love Lauren’s simple rustic holiday style!

I love these! I have wanted to start having chickens for so long. My dad has an awesome chicken coop:)

Courtney Hohimer November 26th, 2014

Eddie DeJean II November 27th, 2014

I would really love to win such a quaint and nice roost to add to my flock. If I would win this one it will be given to my 13 month old son as a starter coop for his new chicks when we either purchase or hatch them. The whole set up would be great for little Myles as a learning tool for both chores and cleaning, by building confidence in himself that HE can do it. Thank you again for such a wonderful giveaway. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Lindsey karr November 27th, 2014

The first one!!!

Mary B November 27th, 2014

Shelly’s manager!

carole November 27th, 2014

I like Shannon’s the best. I do my best to be frugal and green… so not having the coop lite up (using electricity) is best! Sometimes less is more. If I win the clubhouse coop, it will be put to good use!! 🙂

Shanna November 27th, 2014

If I win this coop, I would send it to Mom. It’s perfect for her!

Ramona November 27th, 2014

My Mille Fleur D’uccles would love this.

Dawn November 27th, 2014

I like Shelley’s manger coop the best – but I really appreciate the effort in all of them. Winning the coop would make a great Christmas present for my Polish pullet “Polly” who insists on roosting on the roof of her chicken tractor every evening and has to be moved inside with her flock mates by hand!

Samantha November 27th, 2014

Lauren’s coop is awesome! They are all really cute but her’s is classically beautiful. 🙂

CWirth November 28th, 2014

This is our first year with our four girls. They are now 7 mos old and the light of our days. They are a joy to own. Our first coop was a gift Santa brought me, and with no first hand knowledge of chickens, we thought it was perfect. But as the girls grew and moved outside permanently, we realized it needed many things: a larger run, a taller sleeping area, better security, heat, light and a waterproof roof. So as the days go by, and ideas change as we learn more of their needs, our coop is always transforming….I plan on decorating for the holidays. Right now we have enclosed the coop with heavy plastic to keep winter winds and snow out, and then walled up the outside walls with hay bales. We find ourselves always thinking of their comfort and safety. Who knew these four pretty girls could dominate our lives! Yes, I would love to win this coop, as I would love to expand my little group of girls with a couple more.

carol johnson November 28th, 2014

I like Laurens coop the best.

[…] loved seeing all the coop decorations from my colleagues for the Coop Giveaway with Fresh Eggs Daily. I didn’t submit a coop photo, though. I confess that while I go a […]

Dawn Dabek November 28th, 2014

My son likes April’s coop the best! I am hoping to get a new coop because my husband “made” us a coop and refuses to alter it to make it more safe for my 3 chickens. Squirrels can get in there and eat their food. They also do not have a large “aviary” that I was hoping for to run around and be safe! Please pick us for a coop!

Judy November 28th, 2014

Lauren’s is delightful, especially the custom touches.

Francesca Watson November 28th, 2014

These are all sweet, but I love Lauren’s coop and run – looks like it would be cheerful all year long!

I love April’s coop. It is beautiful both day and night.
We could really use 2 new coops, one for the bantams and one for the quail. The prize coop would be prefect for either group!!

Robin November 28th, 2014

Lauren the pig in the hat really inspires holiday joy! I vote for your coop. I wish we had painted our coop before the girls moved in. But its in a rickety old milking room and if we get too much snow this winter the roof might come down on us (we have done some re-enforcing to try and prevent this) but next coop – going red with twinkle lights for sure!

John November 28th, 2014

I like April’s coop the best.

Jenny Madison November 29th, 2014

I love seeing all the different coups. We don’t celebrate the holidays, but it is neat to see how you can decorate your coup for different occasions. Love seeing the different coup styles too! 🙂

Tom Hunter December 1st, 2014

April’s coop is my favorite. Looks great.

Riley December 2nd, 2014

I like Debs coop! My son has Aspergers and randomly became hooked on chickens. As my sons obsession grew and we learned countless chicken facts from him, we figured we’d get a little chick at the local flea market. We live in the city and on a golf course so you wouldn’t think we’d be able to raise chickens, but we checked city code, got the all clear & turned the kids playhouse into a chicken coop. Now our whole family loves chickens & we’re enjoying a little bit of farm life in the city. We now have 5 chickens (Flea Market, Clucky, Sunshine, Flower, and Brownie) that are the friendliest chickens you’d ever meet! We’d love to give them some more space since they’re backyard chickens and would be so very grateful if we were to win a new coop!

Elizabeth December 2nd, 2014

Lauren’s coop is adorable!

Lynn Kalinauskas December 2nd, 2014

My favorite is April’s!

D'Wanna December 2nd, 2014

I really like Shelly’s manger coop with the rustic, sparkling star. I’d love to have a coop, period. Have been longing for chickens for many years; the sound of my neighbors’ hens softly clucking is a soothing lullaby and makes me smile every time I hear them!

Emily December 2nd, 2014

I like Deb’s coop–almost looks like a gazebo out in the woods. We are really looking forward to getting our own chickens this spring and need a coop! My son has autism and taking care of chickens (we started by watching the neighbor’s hens when they were out of town) is one of the few things that really calms him and puts him in a good state. I cannot wait to get our own–I’ve wanted them for years also. =)

Amanda December 2nd, 2014

Planning to get our first chickens in the spring – winning this coop would be great! I vote for Shelly’s coop!

Lucy December 2nd, 2014

Coop 1 – Deb’s I the one I liked!

Sherri December 2nd, 2014

I like Lauren’s best!

I love Shelly’s manger coop! I could really use a second coop, for when I get new flock members, and have a nice place to keep them separate till I’m sure they are okay. I “make do” for now, but would really like an actual coop for the new ones. Or sometimes for roosters that are a bit too rowdy. Or sometimes for broody hens…. I think I need three of these!!

They’re all pretty cute, and I’m sure enjoyed by all those ‘chicks’, but I think I have to go with Deb’s. : -)

#4 is my pick!

I’m a newfound chicken lover and I now have a flock of 8 birds! I’m starting to plan my second coop because I’m totally embracing my OBSESSION! My current coop is 4’x5′ with no run 🙁 my new chicks would LOVE an awesome new coop to transition to from their brooder. I’m the kind that paints the inside of the coop and hangs curtains around the window lol #chickenlove

Good luck everyone!

They all look great but I think I have to go with Shelly’s coop. The chicken standing watch over the manager won me over.

Hi Shannon, You share really interesting and informative Post for us. I would recommend the chicken coop Shannon’s Decorated Poultry Pens most.
