Oh No… the bird is sold out! April 4, 2012

You had your heart set on something special this year, a new breed to add to your existing flock.  I’ve been there myself. I see the Black Copper Marans go quickly, as well as the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and even the ever popular Easter Eggers.  I debated ordering the Marans myself, but I saw them go so quickly there was no chance to grab them up for the spring.

I was able to get some fertile hatching eggs instead and 21 days later, my Silkie was raising two Black Copper Marans and two Easter Eggers.  Of course if you don’t have a wonderful broody breed like Silkies, Cochins or Brahmas, you can always purchase an incubator.

If those options don’t work for you, here is another trick to try, if you have the patience (which I do not), to wait for your sexed chicks.  Sign into your account at mypetchicken.com and place the chicks you would like into your shopping basket.  Don’t go through checkout to actually purchase the chicks, but do “refresh” your basket daily, especially Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons. If there was better-than-expected development or someone cancelled an order with those breeds, a date will pop up in your basket. You can then proceed to check out. Do it quickly, though–they sure are sought after and won’t be available for more than a few moments!
