Chicken quilt from Aunt Lyndell October 25, 2013
My Aunt Lyndell is a quilting genius. A few years ago, she created a quilt for me and my husband that was covered with–of course–chickens. She made us the most beautiful chicken quilt!
I consider myself to be fairly crafty. For instance, I made this Mama Hen and Chicks crochet pattern. And I knit, too. Heck, I even make my own beer. And my chickens help! But quilting is something I’ve just never learned to do. Take a look at the detail of her beautiful project:
She didn’t limit herself to a single type of chicken rendered in different fabrics, though. There is a whole mixed flock on our chicken quilt.
Adorably, there are even baby chicks on the quilt:
And there’s a lanky, Leghorn-y type on our chicken quilt:
The only problem is that the chicken quilt is almost too awesome to use on the bed. I’m half afraid I’ll roll over and crush some eggs! It got me to thinking about what sort of chicken project to work on this year for the holidays. Maybe I should consider a few homemade chicken ornaments. Papier-mâché? Crocheted like snowflakes? If only I was as crafty as Aunt Lyndell, I could design a chicken quilt tree skirt!
The quilt from your Aunt is just gorgeous. So colorful and such a work of art and love. Thank you for sharing with us.
Two of my favourite things – chickens and quilts! What a lovely gift – do use it though, quilts are meant to be loved and to eventually be worn out with use.
I wonder whether your Aunt Lyndell would be good enough to make one for me! This is just stunning – lucky you!
I love the quilt… Your Aunt is a quilting genius… :^)
Wow! A family heirloom for sure!
